Armchair BEA

Well now all you book bloggers have gone and done it... one more thing on my bucket list!! Last week I didn't even know BEA or BBC existed and now I'm bummed Cuz I Want To Go!! pout.
Ah but maybe someday... I thought it was cool enough to see that those, like me, pitifully not in attendance, could try to live vicariously from our armchairs...or where ever.

I've been blogging for awhile and a few months ago branched off with Bunny Tales as my book blog. I just finished my Associates and am on a path that will hopefully lead me to the Masters in Library Science program at the University of Iowa (Go HAWKS!).

But we've had a little detour. In March my oldest of my 2 daughters was diagnosed with AML Leukemia and now we spend most all of our time here at the University of Iowa, but at the Children's Hospital. And no greater place could be found for us to seek her cure. :) I love that I was blessed with this place.
They truly care about all aspects of her recovery. The staff is AMAZING! And the volunteer groups are fabulous. And they have a library!! And it's just been completely remodeled. We go up there often!

I'm also a cat person,

love making my house a home, (even for the boyfriends)

I like to dabble in tech stuff and am learning to build databases just for fun,  I work for a fantastic company that manufactures animal feed and am single. I used to date, but lately that has fallen down the priority list pretty far. ;)

I'm so happy to meet so many folks who love books too!! It's like finding a secret club and knowing the password!! :)

Looking forward to meeting you all!

  1. Wow, you've got a lot going on. I hope that your daughter is well soon! I can't begin to imagine how hard that is for all of you.

  2. I hope your daughter recovers soon! I'm keeping her in my thoughts! Have fun armchairing! Hope you will be able to go next year!

  3. What a positive outlook you have! I hope the furture holds good things for you and I hope this is a good week for Armchairing!!

  4. Nice to meet you Laura and sending you and your daughter all my best. You are right on Children's Hospitals, they do kinda rock and I know the staff will take the best care of her...and you. Glad they've go a good library!

Love your catty cat, look how comfy he (she?) is, just wanna pet that tummy and fur.

Good on you for making the b/f's welcome, you go Mom!

  5. I hope your daughter recovers! I also hope you have a fun week participating in Armchair BEA. :)

  6. I'm glad you found Armchair BEA. I knew about BEA, but also knew I wouldn't be able to go. I was so happy to find Armchair BEA and all the great bloggers I've met along the way.

  7. So nice to meet you, (also a first time Armchair BEAer). Beautiful family, wishing your daughter the very best!

  8. I love those stacks of dear old books on the home page. Well used, well loved.

The cat obviously loves his/her home. You can always tell a good house by the cats....

  9. Lovely to meet you. Sending lots of positive thoughts your daughters way.

I know what you mean about book blogging being a secret club and you get the password. :)

  10. Don't feel bad about almost missing BEA, I'm glad you were able to participate this way. I'm sorry to read about your daughter, but I'm happy to read that she is doing better and that she has such a strong and supportive mom with her on her journey.

  11. Wishing you and your family the very best! As a volunteer at the Ronald McDonald house in Portland, Oregon I meet many brave families like yours. We're all so lucky that there has been such amazing progress in treating Leukemia.

  12. That's definitely a lot going on! I'm sending lots of happy thoughts to you and your fam :)

  13. I am wishing your daughter has a speedy and FULL recovery!

On behalf of the Armchair BEA organizers, we hope you have a blast this week!

  14. Stopping here by way of Armchair BEA. We're a cat loving family, too. That's awesome the children's hospital has a library. Tell your daughter to stay strong! She already has something going for her -- I know for a fact the Midwesterners are fighters. :)

  15. Wishing your daughter a full recovery! It's great to meet you and that's wonderful that the children's hospital has a (remodeled) library! I'm looking forward to seeing more of your posts and DFTBA! ;D

  16. "It's like finding a secret club and knowing the password!!" That's an interesting way of putting it!:D You and your daughters looks so lovely! Glad to know your older one is recovering.:)

What's the BBC by the way?....

  17. P.S. I see that you're reading Brisingr at the are you finding it? I read the first two books together and quite liked it. I was especially interested in the way Paolini's writing obviously grew better. I bought the third book about two or three years later, and I haven't been able to go past the first chapter.:-/

  18. Hi Laura--nice to meet you and thank you for your comment on Monday. I actually stumbled on your personal blog first and read about your daughter over there. My heart goes out to you and your family but you have such a positive tone in this post. Wishing the best for a healthy recovery!

And yes, love book blogging. You're right about the secret club and knowing the password. ;)
